Dr. Ricardo Martin

Dr. Ricardo Martin holds a Bachelor, a Master and a PhD degree in Medical Biology from the University of Lausanne (UNIL). During his PhD studies at the Department of Biochemistry (UNIL), Ricardo was a member of the group of Prof. Nicolas Fasel, where he worked on the understanding of new biochemical pathways leading to mTORC1 inhibition (a highly dysregulated protein complex in many diseases including cancers) using chemotherapeutic drugs with new therapy insights. He also participated in other projects and worked for example on treatment failure associated with leishmaniasis.

Ricardo started his career in the field of intellectual property in the IP department of a Swiss biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of innovative therapies and diagnostics in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. During his time there, he was responsible for managing Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) studies and landscaping searches and analysis, drafting patent applications, prosecuting patent applications, contributing to various aspects of the company’s IP strategy and for liaising with inventors, external patent attorneys and other stakeholders on an international level. His broad knowledge in IP as well as his broad and diverse scientific background enables him to work in various technical and scientific fields and to provide high-level, customised and creative solutions for intellectual property matters.

Ricardo is currently a Trainee for becoming a European Patent Attorney. He has successfully passed the pre-European Qualifying Examination (pre-EQE) in 2021, has sat the main EQE in 2022 for the first time and is currently awaiting the results of this extremely difficult professional exam.
